From the point of view of family budget it is possible to say that manual-reel lawn mowers are at the top because they are the cheapest. Their construction and principle of work are pretty simple: pulling the mower you make the wheels and blades rotate and as the result the grass is being cut. Manual-reel lawn mowers are also very quiet, relatively safe and require little upkeep. But still there also are some disadvantages: they cut the grass unevenly and the swaths are not wide, moreover, they do not collect clippings, which means you’ll have to spend extra time to do this work by yourself. So, if you have a spacious lawn, it’s not a good idea to buy a manual lawn mower, but for a compact lawn it’s ok.

Electric push-type lawn mowers have electric motors which make the blades rotate. They can be cord and cordless. Cord lawn mowers often make the mowing process uncomfortable especially if there are trees and other obstacles on the lawn. Both cord and cordless mowers have a lot of advantages among which it is possible to name little upkeep, no emissions and air pollution, wider swaths in comparison with manual mowers and fine cutting. Still there are some disadvantages. The main is that electric mowers do not perform excellent work on very thick grass.

Gas-powered lawn mowers are quite expensive and noisy, they also produce exhaust emissions which is not very good for ecology. The list of disadvantages may be continued by regular oil changes and tune-ups. But their main advantages are that they collect clippings, work very fast on any type of grass, cut the grass evenly and have wide swaths. Gas-powered lawn mowers are excellent for spacious lawns.

These are the most popular types of lawn mowers excellent for maintaining home lawns. However, there also exist lawn tractors, zero-turn-radius mowers, robotic mowers and so on. They show perfect, fast and thorough work, but they cost too much and are usually used in the fields and very spacious areas.
